Just to give you all a quick update as to the progress of DGB Jobs.

As you may have noticed, I encountered a few issues with the plugin I was using to facilitate DGB Jobs. It was causing the whole of DGB to shut down at my end. I was getting a server screen instead of the website. Many of you won’t have seen this. However, I was being locked out of my own website because of a security feature I have installed. Anyway, that’s the technical reason that you’re probably not bothered about.

As a result of speaking with my IT guys, I have had to make a few changes to the way DGB Jobs will be run.

Originally, the system would allow a company placing a job listing to simultaneously create an account on DGB Jobs, whereby companies logged in would be able to edit and remove vacancies as they became filled. Unfortunately, the back end of this was complicated for the end user, and would only serve to create confusion, which is obviously not what I want.

Instead, I have created a form in which companies wishing to place job listings will fill in, very much like the old system. The difference being however is that at my end I will manually upload the details to the Jobs Dashboard page. So, there is no extra work for companies uploading jobs or people viewing jobs, but a little bit of extra work for me! However, this more manual system will work, so I don’t mind doing it.

All that would need to happen is companies who have listings that have been filled will have to notify me when those posted positions have been filled. A direct message on Twitter will be enough. So long as I get told in one way or another so I can take the job listing off.

DGB Features

Who can use it

For now, it is going to remain free to use. The reaction to DGB Jobs has been very positive, with a number of people and businesses reaching out to be part of it.

However, to gain traction, I am happy for it to be free to use. A few have said that I should be charging for the service. Personally, I don’t need the money, and I’m really just trialling the service. If it works then great, I may consider a Premium listings options where companies can pay to have their vacancies promoted in a prominent position with more features. Only if it establishes itself.

If you’re a recruitment agency or media organisation, there will be a part of the form to fill in where you an identify yourself as such. This will give you the ability to post vacancies to DGB Jobs on behalf of your clients.

All being well I aim to make the DGB Jobs facility live later on this evening. Keep an eye on @glazingblogger on Twitter for information once it’s goes live!
