A company which credits itself as “the first company to bring Folding Sliding Doors to the UK” has gone into administration. Sunfold Systems Limited was placed into administration on 10th October and becomes another casualty of an industry that appears to be abruptly shifting down the gears.

Tough trading

This is the notice published on The Gazette:

This latest administration adds to a growing number of companies who are finding trading conditions difficult.

I guess the wider question now is whether fenestration companies that go into administration will be bought out of administration. I question the profitability and attractiveness of our industry at the moment. Margins are low, costs are rising and we’re at the end of an economic cycle and home owners are looking less likely to fork out for home improvements as we near the end of the year.

That being said, there are some very successful companies dotted about UK fenestration, and some of those may see this as an opportunity to expand their reach to new parts of the UK, or even just to simply swallow up competitors.

We must remember also the human element to all this. Whenever a company goes into administration jobs will be on the line. For those who work for these companies, they will all hope that resolutions and stability can be found as soon as possible.
