Sorry about the title of this post, didn’t want to get your hopes up!
We got this through our fax machine today:
Don’t really know what to think of this to be honest. I know we wouldn’t ever have a had marketing push using this sort of material. It doesn’t strike me as professional either. I would have liked to have been at that meeting when it was decided that this was a good idea!
I can see what they are trying to do. The modern way of getting people’s attention is to hit them with something rude and a bit blue, for the shock factor. But it has to be done right. I think this is a bit too blatant and tacky if you ask me.
Where I live, Eric France, the scrap metal dealers, run a billboard and bus campaign with scantily clad women very much the focus of their ads, with the background message of using them for cashing in your scrap metal. By all accounts it has worked. They have continued this campaign for a few years now. But things like this have to be done tastefully and carefully. The image above, just isn’t.
It’s silly. It works as an ad in a way. It gets people talking, it’s got me writing this blog. But honestly, how many of you have taken much notice of the fact that they are prepared to sell their paneled doors with reinforcing for just £75 + VAT? Probably very few of you. If so, overall the ad has failed and just serves to make the company look a little bit unprofessional.
I know this is besides the point, and you were doing it ironically. But technically you have just done the exact same thing to get people to read this blog post….
True. But hopefully the message of the post will get through that :)
Thanks for your comment!
Cannot imagine any respectable MD allowing this, and who on earth would describe Door Panels sexy?
I suspect that the MD won’t know much about this sort of promotion! As for calling door panels sexy, I agree with your confusion! Door panels aren’t very sexy at all!
Thanks for your comment!
I honestly thought you’d been hacked for a second! But on another note, this got my media advertising head on! Using females as a marketing tool has been used for decades, however, we are seeing more and more pornographic adverts to get our attention. This is clearly a desperate attempt at doing this, and quite frankly was probably done by someone with a bad sense of humour. I know windows and doors arnt the most attractive thing in the world but please please please don’t attempt at a joke by calling them sexy…I’m embarrased for the company… Why would anyone… Read more »
haha you are right, It doesn’t make you think much of the company! Just that they are willing to trick you to get your attention, which for me then loses my trust! therefore I would not be buying from them even if the offer was good.
