When you’re in the manufacturing business, the security of your products is one of the most important areas to have covered. Security features are some of the biggest selling points for installers and it is down to suppliers to bring the best security features for their windows and doors to the market.
This is something that John Fredericks do very well in. They have one of the best door locking mechanisms on the market right now, fit high security door cylinders as standard and fit the highly successful, tried and tested Maco locking systems on their windows. And it is this last feature that now comes with an extra added bonus.
Maco, in conjunction with their customers, in this case John Fredericks, have launched their Maco Secure Plus scheme. In the words of Maco themselves, this is how it works: MACO Secure Plus guarantees the performance of our hardware against break-in through failure of the product. Should in the unlikely event of a successful break-in, MACO Secure Plus will re-imburse any insurance excess up to a maximum of £1000. Many other benefits and services are included at no charge to the Fabricator or Installer.
Basically, Maco and John Fredericks are that confident of the product that if a break-in was to occur because of a failure of that product, then they will stump up up to £1000 in cash to cover the cost of the insurance claim. Though something like this is unlikely to happen, it is really demonstrating the faith that both John Fredericks and Maco have in their product and how sure they are of the quality of the locking system.
Installers, customers of John Fredericks, are able to display this scheme in their showrooms using stickers, banners and so on, demonstrating to the customer that the locks they are getting on their windows are that good that the suppliers will back this up with £1000 worth of insurance coverage. It’s nice for an installer to be able to boast a feature like this.
Here are some of the other benefits the Maco Secure Plus scheme gives:
- Support for the Fabricator (John Fredericks), Marketing materials, certificates, brochures, pop up banners, events and full use of MACO lecture theatre at headquarters in Sittingbourne Kent
- Support for the Installer, marketing materials for the end user, pop up banners, van stickers, training and technical back up and certification. Images and text for your own website
- Support for our mutual customers, brochures about the services available to them, certificate, and stickers for the home

It s nice to see a lock manufacturer being very forward on this size of scale but as the saying goes what man made man will break, I will keep a keen eye on this subject to see how it goes, the other point is the lock is only as good as the door or window it’s made for
Avocet Hardware are currently offering a similar scheme on the Affinity door hardware and ABS cylinders but for a total of £2000, £1000 for a new door and £1000 compensation if the hardware fails during a break in.
We launched this scheme in conjuntion with MACO UK in November 2011, over 50 installation companies have joined and the additional sales / marketing support has been very well received. To my knowledge there has not being any claims raised since the launch, both Glazerite Windows Ltd and MACO UK will be actively promoting the scheme at the FIT show.
That’s correct. the MACO Secure family includes the original MACO Secure for casement windows and later MACO Secure Plus including almost all styles of windows and doors. To date we are proud to report only 2 claims since 1997. MACO Secure is only offered on windows and doors fitted with high quality, highly secure locking systems, the Fabricator has to show that the windows and doors are PAS24 tested or type tested at MACO’s in house test centre. The whole ethos behind the scheme is to promote great fabricators, great installers, people who have a passion for thier work and… Read more »
