It’s getting closer! The framework for DGB Consumer is in place and content population as begun. It’s been a long time coming but it looks like I’m on track to make live the consumer section of DGB on Monday August 3rd.

A good foundation

DGB Consumer will be launching, but it won’t be the finished article. In fact DGB Consumer will never be truly finished, but it will grow larger and larger over time, so that home owners who find their way to the site will discover a growing amount of content. So I’m launching on a good foundation, with work continuing to build and improve DGB Consumer steadily over time.

But I have to launch it at some point, so right now I am in the process of populating pages with the content I already have available, or content that is straightforward to write and make live. I am happy to say that a few of my Twitter friends are helping me out on the content front. Roseview Windows have kindly provided an excellent infographic which demonstrates the supply chain from the very start to the very end. This I believe will be a popular feature as the site will attempt to shed a bit more light on how their products are made.

UPVC Spares 4 Repairs have kindly put together a very in-depth guide on how to maintain window and door products, as well as other bits too.

Nick from Aluminium Trade Supply has kindly offered to put together a (unbiased) resource on aluminium windows and doors, with John Fredericks offering to supply the information for PVCu window and door products. I am yet to find or contact a company for provide informational resources for timber windows and doors, so if there are any timber companies reading, feel free to drop me a line!

Industry help

I am contacting other’s for help in building up DGB Consumer quite simply because there are other people and companies more qualified to speak on certain subjects than I am. So if I am to build a reliable and trustworthy consumer section, the information I have on there has to be reliable. I am writing a lot of the content still, just not the bits I don’t feel as confident on.

If there is something you feel could benefit consumers and you think it should be on DGB Consumer, please email me on info@doubleglazingblogger.com and we can talk about getting it on there.

A bridge between the industry and homeowners

There are a couple of reasons why I have decided to go on this mission to build a consumer area on DGB. Right now I don’t feel like there is a dedicated independent industry website which aides the home owner. There are sights like Which? and Money Saving Expert, but they’re not dedicated to one industry. In time I hope that what I am building here will become that dedicated place where home owners will know to go to for help on questions and general fenestration industry information.

The other reason is that I feel that in order for DGB to grow in the future, be it in page views or visitors, it has to have a side which appeals to home owners. The industry has a finite number of people and companies and at some point will hit a ceiling. So I’m being prudent and spending the time now to build and expand the site ready to reach out and bring in consumers and home owners.

DGB does already have some degree of home owners landing on the site. I get fairly regular emails from home owners asking me various things. So I know that people outside the industry are finding the site. It just needs a dedicated place for them to go and find answers to their questions.

I have long term goals for DGB and still plenty of ideas I hope to put into place. This particular idea has been in the planning for a long time, so I am excited that it’s getting very close to being a bigger part of this website. I hope that you will all support this new venture and help build it up to something that can benefit both the industry and home owners as well.

I still have plenty of ideas I want to try. Some will work, some won’t. But one thing is for sure, DGB is here to stay and will continue to grow so long as people are willing to support it!
