I have been running a poll on DGB since it became obvious that we were headed for another General Election. You can find that poll here.

Whilst there are many issues at play during a General Election, like health care, police, mental health provisions and much more, the single biggest issue is undoubtedly Brexit. An issue that affects all of us, including the UK fenestration sector.

Election, PM and 2nd vote

It was suggested to me that alongside the General Election poll I have been running, it would be a good idea to find out the industry’s views on who would make the better Prime Minister from the main candidates, and how people would vote if there was a second referendum on the EU.

So, below are three polls. I have included my ongoing GE poll. There is also a poll asking you who would make the better PM and a poll on a 2nd referendum. Please leave your votes below.

Rationale

I will be running all these polls until election day. The General Election poll is simply a list of all the main parties in the UK. Its represented nationally, not regionally.

My decision on the 2nd referndum options were difficult. I did think about including a fourth option: leave – without a deal. My issue with that however is that that particular scenario now seems very unlikely, whatever the makeup of Parliament after the vote. Most MPs aren’t for it, so the chances of Parliament allowing that to happen are slim at best, so I decided in the end not to include that option as it won’t be presented to the public. I also included “don’t know” as an option. Its quite feasible that people from each side of the argument last time might have switched sides. It also means that if a second vote was presented, some at this point would not know, or wouldn’t even vote at all.

Personally, I don’t think we’ll be voting again in a 2nd referendum. If we give credit to the opinion polls at this stage, the Tories could well be set with a decent majority. Labour looks likely to lose seats, mainly to the Lib Dems. The Tories won’t be having a second vote and will be leaving the EU with Boris’ deal. Still, we’re living in very unpredictable times, and its quite possible that gaffe-prone Boris could still let his big lead in the poll slip through his fingers.

I can almost guarantee that every single one of us was hoping not to be talking about Brexit and politics in the run up to Christmas. But we are where we are, and we face one of the most important votes in decades. It’s ramifications will affect all of us, and the UK fenestration industry too. So please take a moment to leave your vote in all three of the poles above and help make the results as accurate as possible.
